We've just completed the first 9 weeks in school and I'm proud to say that all three girls met their class goals of AR points. You have no idea what stress this can be unless you have children that have to do this as well. Basically, you earn Accelerated Reader points when you read a book, then take a comprehension test on the book. You earn points based on the reading level of the book, and the amount of questions answered correctly. Leah's class goal is 15 points per 9 weeks, Molly's is 25 points, and Ashlyn's is 30. Leah finished a few weeks ago and has been slowly reading through another book, waiting for the new 9 weeks to take her test, while Ashlyn and Molly were burning the midnight oil to finish their last books to meet their requirements. Molly was so excited, because her entire 6th grade class met their goal and had acquired the most points out of all the classes in that grade. GO MOLLY!!! Report cards are due to come out this Friday, so we'll see what happens....

The BMI Scale
I just checked my mail from yesterday and wanted to share the note I received from the school nurse at the middle school. The kids are all put through a health screening and the results are sent home for you as a parent. Unless a parent sends a letter stating they don't want their child to participate, every child is evaluated. According to the paperwork, Molly is 49.32 inches tall, weighs 86 lbs and her BMI (body mass index) is 24.86, or 95.43% which placed her in the "OVERWEIGHT, excess weight; associated with health risks category" and encourages you to seek a medical assessment for evaluation and intervention. This means that 95% of other children, whose sex and age are the same, are considered to be in a healthier weight range. So you can appreciate these results even more, here's Molly.....
Now, if you are a math whiz, you can tell that this placed Molly at a little over 4 foot tall instead of almost five feet (which she is) showing the error in the overweight BMI. I had to look it up, so her true BMI is 18.4 which is SUPER healthy. :) Obviously I was pretty upset about this and thinking, "How can this be?", but since I've started this blog I'm more fully awake, though I have to admit I was pretty upset at first.

Al's Birthday
I just got back from shopping and am very excited. I got Al a tv and dvd player for his birthday tomorrow. I think he will really enjoy this, but it's kind of for me too:). I figure that I owe him since several years back I got a brand new rifle for my birthday. I'm a little nervous, because we usually don't make big purchases without discussing it with each other, but I called and told him before I went in the store that I was going to be spending more money than usual on him for his birthday. The satelite installer should be here tomorrow to bring the new receiver so we get DVR as well. I'm basically ecstatic that I don't have to live my life around tv shows anymore. I can watch when I have time. YEAH!!

Baker vs. Nease
Last night we traveled to Nease (almost St. Augustine) to play (cheer) at Ashlyn's last junior varsity football game. It started out great, and we went into half time with a 20 - 0 lead. Surely we would get to see Ashlyn and her team mates perform this chant at the end of the game. (You'll notice that Ashlyn enjoys it a lot more than everyone else.)
Keep in mind that "it isn't over until the fat lady sings". Even though we didn't see her, she sang loud and clear. We ended up in overtime and lost 20 - 27. What a heartbreaker! There were some questionable calls (of course). What's the rule about an offsides kick? Word in the stands was that the ball has to go at least 10 yards before you make contact with a player from the opposite team. I won't go into all the details, but I will say that it happened more than once. Though their football team came out on top, their cheerleaders couldn't touch ours! :)

And cheering is what it's all about in this house full of girls! Way to go Ash!!

fun with Zade, we think
This is our attempt at fun with Zade. Since Damian wasn't able to make this trip and join in the fun, we thought we'd share this. Hayden was the mastermind to start this spinning in a dirty clothes bag, but Zade is quite the adventurer too (plus you can spin him faster!) It was all fun and games until the bag was spun too tight.... you'll hear the disgruntled sounds if you watch to the end.

So, all the girls in the house love Bon Qui Qui and are constantly quoting her. Here's Leah giving Mimi her best impression (it's pretty good!) See what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZkdcYlOn5M.
